Darren Criss spills a few spoilers on 'Glee' 3D movie

MB:

He seems to have come out of left field, but he’s wowed the world over. “Glee” fans sure love him, and it looks like he’d be camping out on the show for a long time.

Darren Criss is the Warbler charmer Blaine Anderson, Kurt’s mentor-turned-boyfriend. As an openly gay character, Blaine has earned his stripes (or his Dalton Academy blazer, rather) as another positive role model for the kids who follow the show. And for the Fil-Am actor (whose mother hails from Cebu), that’s just one of the amazing things he’s been able to do since he got Gleek-ed.

As part “Glee,” Darren also now gets to expand his horizons. Although he’s had to put his recording career on hold in lieu of the show, Darren is still bent on pursuing this and is, in fact, signed to a record label. And aside from his theater experience, creating a Harry Potter musical Parody called “A Very Potter Musical,” and even a successful company called StarKid Productions (which produces online hit shows that have reportedly gained a global cult following), Darren now gets his movie debut.

Filmed during this summer’s “Glee” concert tour, “Glee The 3D Concert Movie” gives the Gleeks an exciting big screen experience. Why? Because they just can’t get enough, it seems.

“It is a great extension of the show, but it’s very real and it’s celebrated in real time with real people,” Darren notes. “There is a live catharsis that occurs that is just amazing. I think the film will be able to capture that for audiences who didn’t get a chance to make it to the show.”

It may be a daunting task to join a hit show and be expected to hold your own, but Darren has a unique perspective.

“I joined the show after it had become successful so I still have those moments when I [would] say to myself ‘you’re on Glee?’ (laughs). It is surreal and continuously humbling and bizarre that I am a part of this show. I never thought I would be part of it in my wildest dreams,” he shares.

Aside from having very relatable characters as well as great songs and production numbers, the allure of the show for Darren is being able to build characters from the ground up. “It was like starting a new show because Dalton Academy was a new entity with new people and all the other Warbler boys started from nothing too—we didn’t know what was going to happen.”

Apparently, at the start, the new addition to the cast didn’t get to interact with the kids in New Directions. “ It was like being on a new pilot and we became extremely close,” Darren recalls. “When I did get to know them, I found that they were wonderful people. I felt very welcome.”

Darren calls himself 'fake Potter,' longs to meet real Harry

BY MB:

Filipino-Irish “Glee” star Darren Criss referred to himself as a “fake Potter” longing to meet the real Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe.

In a feature story on MTV.com, the American media caught up with Darren at the recent Comic-Con event where he was made to comment about replacing Daniel in the hit Broadway production “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”

“The fake Harry Potter has not met the real Harry Potter, only in my dreams, and that’s probably as close as I’ll ever get,” Darren humbly remarked to MTV News.

Both actors have been the subject of parallel Hollywood plots as Darren first rose to mainstream attention following his Harry Potter stage gig via “A Very Potter Musical” prior to Warblers fame.

After having been promoted to “Glee” regular in the forthcoming season three, TV’s Blaine snatched a three-week stint starting Jan. 3, 2012 right after the “Harry Potter” star departs “How to Succeed…” at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

“Right now, honestly, I’m just trying to get my head screwed back on. I’ve been traveling around a lot, and who knows what the future holds? But if that’s something, who knows, that’d be great,” the Hollywood heartthrob told MTV News.

The stage break will clash with the actor’s “Glee” taping schedule but creators of the hit TV serial expressed support for Darren to do the play.

Eonline.com’s Ted Casablanca wrote an extended piece about the potential of the Fil-Irish talent who visited Manila for shows months back.

Calling Darren and Daniel’s Hollywood race “twin careers,” the feature outlined ways for Darren to capitalize in order “to further separate himself from the pack” of budding young stars.

The analysis suggested for Darren to look out for a good breakout film project. “Darren’s already proved himself to be a capable songwriter and producer. So why not aim for a feature film? If Ben Affleck and Matt Damon can win an Oscar for Best Screenplay, there’s no doubt that Darren can. It should be a comedy, maybe one throwing in his singing chops.”

The story also proposed a villain role for Darren. “Get his Voldemort on! While Daniel shone as hero Harry Potter, we have doubts about his ability to be a convincing bad guy. But we can totally see Darren rocking a villain role, but not one of those creepy, lurk-in-the-shadows kind of guys. We’re thinking maybe a devilishly charming young man with a hidden dark side, something along the lines of ‘American Psycho.’ And a maniacal laugh is an absolute must.”

While Daniel opted for going full frontal for “Equus,” Eonline thinks otherwise for Darren. “Fans swooned when those wet, shirtless pics of Darren emerged earlier this year. But we have to admit, we’re slightly relieved Darren hasn’t dropped trou yet. No offense, Danny, but deciding to go full-frontal for ‘Equus’ may not have been your most fab hour, gutsy as it was.”

Teen Choice Awards 2011: Fil-Am Darren Criss wins TV Breakout Star

Filipina international singer Charice did more than just show up at the Teen Choice Awards 2011—she presented an award to singer-actress Demi Lovato.

Charice, together with “Teen Wolf” lead actor Tyler Posey, presented the Acuvue Inspire Award to the Disney star during the awards show held Aug. 7 (US time) in Los Angeles, California. The award was bestowed to Demi for “inspiring many teens" and for her “brave decision” to cut her recent tour short in order to “seek help for her personal issues.” Demi had been battling with depression and eating disorder prior to her rehabilitation.

Charice summed up her TCA experience—her first ever—in a tweet posted on Monday.

“That was freaking awesome! Demi Lovato is sooo nice. :) Thanks TCA! Now off to Japan. :)” said she who would later on re-tweet a Twitpic of her and Demi posted by @ChariceFanatic.

Prior to the show, Charice had her own red carpet moment. In a footage aired on “Umagang Kay Ganda" on Aug. 8, she was seen singing a few lines of Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” with Amen Kelly, the winner of the “Acuvue One Day Contest,” a promo for the contact lens brand that Charice endorses.

Another interview with Charice was aired on the “Red Carpet and Backstage Live” web show at the TCA official website. Here, the diminutive pop diva addressed questions related to her “Glee” stint and other upcoming projects.

Asked if she will appear on “Glee” anew, Charice said, “Well right now I can’t say anything about 'Glee' but I’m very thankful that they had me in their second season. I really had fun working with them, but…”

Still on “Glee,” Filipino-Irish singer-actor Darren Criss bagged the award for Choice TV Breakout Star.

In his acceptance speech, Darren thanked the “Glee” creators “for giving me a break… and for having me invited over to the party with all these wonderful people," pertaining to his co-stars.

He likewise thanked his fans “for letting me break out…”

“Thank you so much to the 'Glee' fans, StarKid fans, everybody who supported me, and you’re all amazing! I’m so blessed, thank you so much!” he exclaimed.

Darren has recently been upgraded as series regular on “Glee.”

For the second year in a row, “Glee” won Choice TV Comedy. Darren’s co-star, Cory Monteith, meanwhile, is the fans’ choice for TV actor for comedy.

GLEE NEWS: Fil-Irish Darren Criss is Daniel Radcliffe's replacement in Broadway show

Gaining success through “Glee” is one thing; succeeding “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe in an acclaimed musical is another.

Filipino-Irish singer-actor Darren Criss is set to fill Radcliffe’s shoes in the comedic musical “How To Succeed In Business Without Trying,” via a three-week stint from January 3 to 22, 2012, according to a release posted on the New York Theater Guide website on Aug. 1.

“How To Succeed” will mark Criss’ Broadway debut.

Radcliffe’s will bow out as window washer J. Pierrepont Finch on New Year’s Day. Radcliffe, who made his theater debut via “Equus,” had been playing the Finch character since the show opened last March.

Amid incessant rumors of him replacing Radcliffe, Criss intimated in his interview with MTV News last week that the project was still hanging in the balance.

“Right now, honestly, I'm just trying to get my head screwed back on. I've been traveling around a lot, and who knows what the future holds? But if that's something, who knows, that'd be great,” said the 24-year-old singer-songwriter, who plays charming Warbler Blaine Anderson on "Glee."

“How To Succeed” director and choreographer Rob Ashford admitted in the same website release that he and his team initially thought that it would be “nearly impossible” to find Radcliffe’s replacement given his “extraordinary performance eight times a week.”

Criss has apparently changed their minds.

“When we learned of Darren's dream of performing on Broadway we knew we had found our Finch but presumed his ‘Glee’ schedule would eliminate any chance to work with him. We are ecstatic and grateful to Ryan Murphy (show creator) and his 'Glee’ team at 20th Century Fox TV for helping to make both Darren's and our dream come true," Ashford said.

Interestingly, Criss and Radcliffe shared some sort of connection prior to “How To Succeed...” The former was one of the brains behind the hit YouTube parodies “A Very Potter Musical” and “A Very Potter Sequel” where he played Radcliffe’s iconic role.

Criss admitted to MTV News though that “the fake Harry Potter has not met the real Harry Potter. Only in my dreams, and that's probably as close as I'll ever get."

But if that dream becomes a reality, and if the fans would see “Dan and I do a number, I think ears would bleed,” MTV News quoted Criss as saying in an earlier interview.
