Darren Criss spills a few spoilers on 'Glee' 3D movie

MB:

He seems to have come out of left field, but he’s wowed the world over. “Glee” fans sure love him, and it looks like he’d be camping out on the show for a long time.

Darren Criss is the Warbler charmer Blaine Anderson, Kurt’s mentor-turned-boyfriend. As an openly gay character, Blaine has earned his stripes (or his Dalton Academy blazer, rather) as another positive role model for the kids who follow the show. And for the Fil-Am actor (whose mother hails from Cebu), that’s just one of the amazing things he’s been able to do since he got Gleek-ed.

As part “Glee,” Darren also now gets to expand his horizons. Although he’s had to put his recording career on hold in lieu of the show, Darren is still bent on pursuing this and is, in fact, signed to a record label. And aside from his theater experience, creating a Harry Potter musical Parody called “A Very Potter Musical,” and even a successful company called StarKid Productions (which produces online hit shows that have reportedly gained a global cult following), Darren now gets his movie debut.

Filmed during this summer’s “Glee” concert tour, “Glee The 3D Concert Movie” gives the Gleeks an exciting big screen experience. Why? Because they just can’t get enough, it seems.

“It is a great extension of the show, but it’s very real and it’s celebrated in real time with real people,” Darren notes. “There is a live catharsis that occurs that is just amazing. I think the film will be able to capture that for audiences who didn’t get a chance to make it to the show.”

It may be a daunting task to join a hit show and be expected to hold your own, but Darren has a unique perspective.

“I joined the show after it had become successful so I still have those moments when I [would] say to myself ‘you’re on Glee?’ (laughs). It is surreal and continuously humbling and bizarre that I am a part of this show. I never thought I would be part of it in my wildest dreams,” he shares.

Aside from having very relatable characters as well as great songs and production numbers, the allure of the show for Darren is being able to build characters from the ground up. “It was like starting a new show because Dalton Academy was a new entity with new people and all the other Warbler boys started from nothing too—we didn’t know what was going to happen.”

Apparently, at the start, the new addition to the cast didn’t get to interact with the kids in New Directions. “ It was like being on a new pilot and we became extremely close,” Darren recalls. “When I did get to know them, I found that they were wonderful people. I felt very welcome.”

Charice's scenes in 'Glee' cut due to rivalry with Lea Michele?

GMA NEWS:

Were the scenes of the little lady with a big voice Charice Pempengco in the hit television series "Glee" cut to avoid upsetting the show's star Lea Michele?

A New York Post report on August 23 quoted a show source as saying, "Charice was signed for a minumun of five episodes and did a press junket with Chord Overstreet. She has a big debut, but things changed and they didn't put her back in. The word is, Lea is the big star, and producers want to keep her happy."

However, a "Glee" spokesman denied rumors of a rivalry.

"While it is true that she [Charice] appeared in fewer episodes last year than we originally anticipated, this was due to her busy schedule and the natural creative process in which some story arcs ... did not materialize as planned," the New York Post report said.

"Lea is a consummate pro who couldn’t be more welcoming of other powerhouse singers on the show, from Kristin Chenoweth to Idina Menzel, who is set to reprise her role as Rachel’s birth mom this fall," the report added.

Charice was first introduced in the pilot episode of Glee's second season last September.

The international singing sensation plays Sunshine Corazon, an exchange student who, like the real Charice, is Filipino, demure, and of course, sings like an angel.

Charice was a hit, both as herself and as Sunshine. In real life, Pinoy audiences went wild over her Glee debut, and in the show, McKinley High's Glee club coach Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) welcomed her to his group, New Directions.

However, the lead singer Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) felt threatened, and a rivalry ensues.

Could the rivalry exist offscreen, as well?

On Twitter, Lea and Charice are friendly.

Last March, Lea even tweeted a warm welcome to Charice, with a photo of the two.

"She is such a sweet girl. I was scared at first of her. When I came back to the show, she immediately said, “Hi Charice! We missed you so much!" Then she took a picture with me," said Charice of Lea in an earlier interview.

Negative reactions

Fans reacted negatively to the rumors about the supposed rivalry between the two actresses.

"That's sooo mean!! >_<" says castergurl on Twitter. "This is a disturbing article about Glee and @officialcharice...that's Show Business!" said secretquark. Sergiobichao observes, "real-life imitates art." People also expressed their views in the article's comment thread. "If Charice was American, she would be the star of the show. She can blow away any singer out there. She's the best singer to come along in quite some time," said John Michael. Anthony Agpaoa disagreed, pointing out that nationality has nothing to do with it. "Glee is notorious for having a hectic schedule. During Glee filming, Charice was in the midst of the David Foster & Friends touring the US and Asia, her solo tour in Japan, numerous holiday shows and appearances including NBC Christmas at Rockefeller, and promoting cross country and internationally her album. IT's a wonder she had time to squeeze in 3 episodes at all for Glee," he said. - VVP, GMA News

"Don't Stop Believin": "Glee" cast will be back

MB:

"Laying low" must not be in the vocabulary for the television musical comedy "Glee."

For a show that has been on summer break, it's been an active few months for the popular series about the high school singing choir.

The cast members have been on a live concert tour that is now part of the feature length "Glee: The 3D Concert Movie," which opens in theaters on Friday, and they have been the subject of massive fan speculation over who will "graduate" from the show after the third season, which premieres on September 20.

For all those Gleeks wondering just who is in, and who is out, the cast members say it will all clear up, soon enough.

"Everything is going to be revealed in the very first episode," Amber Riley, who plays Mercedes, told Reuters while promoting the Glee concert feature film. "You'll see who are juniors and you'll see who are seniors."

Much has happened to the show's performers during their summer break. They traveled across the North America and the U.K. for the "Glee Live! In Concert" tour where cast members -- including Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Corey Monteith and Heather Morris -- sang many of the memorable songs from the series' first two seasons including "Don't Stop Believin,'", "Teenage Dream" and "Slave 4 U".

The concert movie not only showcases the tour, but goes backstage to get some behind-the-scenes glimpses of the stars, and it throws the spotlight on some extraordinary fans.

Can't Stop the Buzz

But neither fan fervor over the live tour or movie release seem able to stop the incessant buzz about which students will be leaving the show since creator Ryan Murphy told showbusiness website The Hollywood Reporter in July that in order to keep the high school setting credible, actors Michele (Rachel), Colfer (Kurt) and Monteith (Finn) would not be back for season four.

Murphy fueled even more speculation about the upcoming season when he said the show would return to some of the darker comedy and plotlines that marked the first season in 2009.

The news stunned fans and even the actors. "Glee" producers then scrambled to get out the news that plans were underway for the three stars to appear in a spin-off -- an idea from which they later retreated.

While promoting the concert movie, the actors also tried to play down any controversy.

"Just because people are graduating doesn't mean they're not gonna be on the show anymore," said Kevin McHale, who plays the wheelchair bound Artie. "Graduation is a normal part of high school so people don't need to freak out."

Colfer wouldn't confirm his fate at the end of next season, saying only that things have "completely blown out of proportion", while Monteith said he was "looking forward to reading the script and seeing who's there."

Regardless of her own fate, Michele already has ideas on how she'd like to see the new season unfold for Rachel.

"I think it's seriously time to meet my dads," said the actress of her character's gay fathers, who have not so far been seen on screen.

"To see what its like to be a young girl living in Lima, Ohio being raised by two gay men is a really important topic," said Michele. "To focus on that would be very helpful to young girls and boys who are raised in households with same-sex marriages."

GLEE NEWS: Fox tries to play down furor over 'Glee' graduates

Fox television on Friday confirmed that three lead characters of its high school musical comedy "Glee" would be "graduating" at the end of the upcoming season, but tried to play down a fan furor over their exit.

Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said the show's Emmy Award-winning creator Ryan Murphy "probably regrets" going public with the news, and the subsequent confusion over a possible spin-off show for some of the departing "Glee" stars.

Murphy told the Hollywood Reporter in July that actors Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn) and Chris Colfer (Kurt) would not be back for a fourth season in a bid to keep the show about a struggling high school choir more credible.

The news stunned fans and some of the actors said they learned of their fate on Twitter. "Glee" producers then said that plans were underway for the three to appear in a spin-off show, which had later been canceled.

Reilly said on Friday that the "public nature of it did take everybody by surprise" and had "taken on more heated momentum than it in fact is".

"A spinoff was in the wind. It is still in the wind. We haven't said we are not doing it," Reilly told TV journalists, saying the idea would be revisited later this year.

Reilly said the upcoming third season, starting on Sept.20, would be a "back to basics year" for the show.

"There are no big guest star-driven shows, no big tribute numbers. We are focusing on our core characters and relationships. There will will be a graduation at the end, we know the characters who will be graduating. How that is going to play out, I am not going to say. There's going to be surprises," he said.

Reilly blamed Murphy's "creativity" for the confusion over how the characters will leave the show and a possible spinoff. Murphy's interview with The Hollywood Reporter took place at the end of a successful live summer tour by "Glee" cast members as preparations were being made for the new season.

"I think in the middle of Ryan's creativity, this got out and we were a little surprised at how it took on a life of its own," Reilly said.

"Ryan did talk to all the actors about it...Ryan has said he probably regrets talking about it at that point because in the interim we had decided to focus on this year." - Reuters

GLEE NEWS: Lea Michele nervous about meeting crush Taylor Lautner

Lea Michele was so nervous about meeting Taylor Lautner, she was "shaking."

The Glee actress met the Twilight Saga hunk for the first time at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's (HFPA) annual luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel yesterday (August 8) and worried he might think she was "crazy" when they posed for pictures.

She said: "I was shaking. I was so nervous. I was just shaking and shaking."

Speaking about posing for pictures together, she added: "I told him it was going to be our wedding picture. He is going to think I'm crazy."

Lea—who is best known for playing Rachel Berry in Glee—admitted she would love to see Taylor appear in the musical drama series.

She told E! News: "I love that. Let's make that happen."

However, Taylor is not so keen on the prospect, admitting his musical talents are limited.

He said: "I definitely can't sing. That would be a nightmare."

Another fan of Taylor, 19, is Mark Wahlberg, who admitted he is expecting the star to be taking on the roles previously offered to himself and Leonardo DiCaprio.

He told Leonardo: "I am sitting at a table with a gentleman who is better looking than you and is in better shape than me. So, we're both out of a job, dude. Taylor Lautner! We're screwed.

"It's over, dude. Titanic and Boogie Nights were a long time ago. I accept it. I had a good run and on to the next."

Taylor admitted he is overwhelmed by the praise he received.

He said: "I don't even know the word to describe being here. So odd. It's such an honor. I'm up on the stage and talking in front of people like that? The people that I looked up to my entire life? Hearing words like that from Mark and everybody — it's just really surreal."

Other stars at the event—which saw the HFPA hand over $1.6 million in financial aid to film schools and nonprofit organizations—included Gerard Butler, Kevin Bacon, Elisabeth Moss, and Hugh Dancy.
