Kenneth Lonergan's Film "Margaret" Will Feature Opera

"Eleven years after his heralded first film, You Can Count on Me, director Kenneth Lonergan’s sophomore effort is finally going to be released. Margaret, the story of 'a 17-year-old New York City high-school student who feels certain that she inadvertently played a role in a traffic accident that has claimed a woman’s life,' will receive a limited-platform release on Sept. 30, according to Fox Searchlight. Filmed in 2005 with an eclectic cast that includes Matt Damon, Anna Paquin, Mark Ruffalo, Allison Janney, and Matthew Broderick, the movie has been stuck in limbo after Lonergan initially submitted a three-plus hour cut that was deemed unreleasable by the studio. Dueling lawsuits were filed in 2009, and several high-profile Hollywood powerbrokers were recruited to mediate the dispute and persuade the director to deliver a shorter, more commercial film. Fans of the actors and Lonergan, who has also cowritten films such as Gangs of New York, will be eager to see on Sept. 30 what ultimately made the released version — so they can then speculate about what did not." The film is rumored to have lots of opera, but only one clip is confirmed: "Belle nuit, ô nuit d'amour" from Offenbach's Les contes d'Hoffmann sung by Renée Fleming and Susan Graham. There is one scene when mother Joan (J. Smith-Cameron) and daughter Lisa (Anna Paquin) attend the opera and the event becomes quite emotional. No word on whether this is where Offenbach fits in the film.

Lawrence O'Donnell and Matt Damon take a courageous stand to defend our teachers against the unrelenting attacks coming from the Right Wing.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

I am not ashamed to admit that I literally had tears streaming down my face as I watched this segment.

Lawrence O'Donnell's passion in bringing this, and other important, stories to our attention should earn him this country's undying gratitude, and Matt Damon? Well in my humble opinion from this day forward Matt Damon should be considered a national treasure.

He did his mother, his teachers, and his country proud.

New on DVD & Blu-Ray : THE ADJUSTEMENT BUREAU (2011)

Loosely based on the Phillip K. Dick short story "Adjustement Team", the movie is an interesting mix between against-all-odds love story and dystopian sci-fi with a slick retro feel. Matt Damon and Emily Blunt star as the lovers who defy the laws of the universe in order to fulfill their romance, which is threatened by mysterious forces that seem to enforce the predetermination of our fates. The whole idea of going against fate is pretty neat, the actors do a great job, but at times you'll feel like there's too much running around for nothing. Ultimately, despite the attractive premise, the execution is not as daring as it could have been. It's still a good film, but renting it might be the better idea.

New on DVD/Blu-Ray - TRUE GRIT

"True Grit" is the Coen brother's own foray into the western genre. Not as much a remake of the John Wayne classic that earned him an Oscar in 1970, but a new adaptation of the novel written by Charles Portis. A story of revenge and redemption set in the old Wild West, the movie has a stellar cast, wonderful production values and a very articulate script written by the Coens. A complete movie in every way, exciting and immersive, featuring a breakout performance from newcomer Hailee Steinfeld, nominated for a Supporting Role Oscar this year. The movie was also nominated in 9 other categories, including Best Actor in a Leading Role - Jeff Bridges and Best Motion Picture of the Year.

Ex-Yankees Trying to Block Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's Wife-Swap Film

Former Yankee pitcher Mike Kekich is attempting to halt production on Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's film "The Trade."  The movie, based on the 1972 drama when Kekich and another Yankee pitcher Fritz Peterson swapped wives, has yet to start shooting.

The scandal, which was outed in 1973, began when the two Yankee pitchers joked about switching wives--then actually did it.

According to a source from the New York Post, Kekich is desperately trying to block the film from seeing daylight and said," Kekich isn't too keen on having the scandal dredged up again after all this time.  He is panic-stricken.  He has moved away and has a new identity.  He is freaked out that those working on the movie found out where he is."

Boston-raised Red Sox fanatic Affleck and his brother Casey are rewriting the script.  The brothers are reaching out to veteran reporters and ballplayers from that era for more background on the story.  They aren't having an easy time.

The source said," Other Yankees from that time have also been really unhelpful with facts and details of what happened.  They are stonewalling."

The proposed film centers around Kekich and Peterson, both starting pitchers and friends on the fourth-place '72 Yankees, joking about swapping wives during the tail-end of the swinging, free-love era.  Marilyn Peterson eventually moved in with Kekich--which didn't last--and Susanne Kekich moved in with Fritz.  Susanne and Fritz are still married.  Kekich reportedly remarried, had another daughter and started a new life in New Mexico.  The current Petersons live in New Jersey and Colorado.

Affleck hasn't named anyone who would star as Kekich and Peterson but hinted that Damon would direct.  Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz and Rebecca Hall are all being considered for the female leads.

According to the Post, the script has not been shown to Major League Baseball or the New York Yankees and a start date hasn't been announced.

Affleck hasn't been quiet about making a film about the Yankees lean years and an episode which takes the Yankees superior image down a notch.  He told MTV, "I've come to have a little respect for the Yankees.  There are some of those guys...that look like good guys...But as an institution?  Disdain. Contempt."

Regarding the film's storyline, Affleck said, "Guys [bleep]ing each other's wives...that's those Yankees."

Can't wait to see who plays Horace Clarke.
