"It's been an adventurous ride working with the tweens. They don't drop [their] energy whatsoever," said director Mark Reyes on working with the cast of Tween Academy: Class of 2012.
During the press conference on August 4, 2011 at the Executive Lounge of the GMA Network, Direk Mark said he hopes the movie will join the ranks of iconic movies like Bagets and his very own T.G.I.S. (Thank God It's Sabado).
Yassi Pressman, who plays queen bee Caitlin, said: "Masasabi ko po sa movie na ito is [that] it's very, very relatable.
"Pati po yung mga tita namin, tito namin, sinasabi na, 'Oo nga, naaalala ko 'yan, nung bata ako naaalala ko 'yan.'
"It's not only for tweens, it's not only for the kids, it's a family movie po talaga."
Louise delos Reyes, former Alakdana lead actress, talked about the movie's honesty and sincerity. "Kung ano yung nararamdaman ng tao, yun yung lumalabas sa screen. Ito yung samahan namin, yung team work, and yung saya behind the camera."
She plays the role of Jess, a cheerleader who tries to keep her family's true financial situation a secret.
When asked what makes their generation different from that of the '80s Bagets and the '90s T.G.I.S, Elmo Magalona, who plays an introvert who falls in love for the first time, said: "Marami kaming pinaghirapan."
He described the actors of his generation as having the "talent to pursue this kind of career" and the strength "to work hard day and night."
Meanwhile, Bea Binene said Tween Academy dramatizes the struggles of their generation.
"This is our time naman to show what we've got and kung ano talaga yung pinagdadaanan namin," said the former Starstruck Kids finalist who plays the tomboyish Georgina.
ROLE MODELS. What lessons do they want to impart to their young audience?
"Yung passion and hard work," said a confident Alden Richards, who portrays the high school heartthrob, Christian.
"I believe [na] lahat po kami, we put a hundred percent effort in this film. Hindi po siya magiging successful kung hindi sa aming lahat, sa production, sa mga artista, sa mga tulay para maging one big success itong Tween Academy."
Chinita beauty Joyce Ching added, "Yung attitude po naming mga tweens na hindi po kami sumusuko."
In the movie, she plays the studious and goody-goody Ashlee.
Joyce added: "Kasi meron pong mga bagay na hindi pa namin nagagawa, hindi pa naming na-e-explore, tapos... pag pinagawa sa amin yun, hindi kami sumusuko, ginagawa namin lahat para makamit namin yung best talaga."
Derrick Monasterio and Lexi Fernandez talked about the value of respect—for each other and their elders.
Derrick plays the school bully, Maximo, while Lexi plays Chloe, a spoiled brat who suffers from an eating disorder.
INTRIGUES. A question was thrown at Alden Richards who seems to be keen on Louise delos Reyes but has publicly declared that he has a crush on Sam Pinto.
A coy Alden replied, "Kasi kami naman po ni Louise, nag-start kami as love team... Kung sa tagal po ng pinagsamahan, mas may pinagsamahan po kami ni Louise."
Alden, dubbed as Pambansang Dimples, first starred as the leading man of Louise in Alakdana.
He clarified that what he feels for Sam, FHM Philippines' Sexiest Woman of 2011 "is a school-boy crush."
He added: "Kasi di ba? FHM's sexiest woman in the world, tapos di ba a lot of guys would kill for a date with Sam? It's an honor na napaunlakan po ako sa date namin ni Sam Pinto."
Sam, who was sitting a few feet away from Alden, was put on the spot.
"Wow, thank you, Alden," she said.
Sam, who plays teacher Maddie in the movie, added: "Ah kasi tinanong nila kung manliligaw ka daw, kung may possibility [ba daw].
"Manliligaw ka ba? Parang hindi naman e! Feeling ko masyado akong ate para sa'yo."
The tweens at the presscon let out a mocking "Awwww!" directed at Alden.
"Uy, okay lang yun! Kayo talaga!" said the blushing eighteen-year-old actor.
Yassi did not escape the hot seat. She was asked to reveal the identity of the Atenean high school student who visited her on the set. Was he courting the dance floor princess?
"Hindi po siya manliligaw, kaibigan ko po siya. Actually, nag-cameo po kasi yung Ateneo team dito po sa movie. Sila po yung basketball team namin."
Yassi explained that the boy was introduced to her by GMA talent Ynna Asistio.
"Natuwa naman ako na nag-effort pa silang manood sa Party Pilipinas. Pero it's just friendship pa lang po... friendship po!"
