Mainit ang naging takbo ng diskusyon kagabi, August 22, sa presscon ng My Neighbor's Wife sa Imperial Palace Suites sa Tomas Morato, Quezon City.
Matapos kasi ang mga pagtatanong tungkol sa mga maiinit na eksena ng stars ng pelikula na sina Carla Abellana, Lovi Poe, Dennis Trillo, at Jake Cuenca, uminit ang presscon dahil sa tensyon na dulot ng pagpapalitan ng salita ni Carla at ng beteranong showbiz writer at columnist na si Mario E. Bautista.
Pangalawa sa huling magtatanong sana si Mario at magtatanong din sa iba pang stars ng pelikula ng Regal Films, pero inuna niya si Carla.
Una muna'y tinanong nito si Carla kung may gusto raw ba itong sabihin sa kanya.
"Hi, oo. Na hindi n'yo pa po ako nai-interview. Tapos may lumabas na article... So, 'eto na po," sagot ni Carla.
Tinanong ng beteranong showbiz writer kung nabasa na ba ni Carla ang e-mail naman niya sa dalaga na sinagot naman nito ng "Hindi pa."
Tila hindi nagustuhan ni Mario ang sagot ni Carla kaya sinabi nito na sasabihin na lang niya kung ano ang in-email niya rito.
"What I said was I used to be fond of you. When you signed up with Regal, I was there.
"And I think I was the first one who wrote a full article on you ever since you started," sabi ni Mario.
Binanggit din ni Mario kung gaanong sinuportahan niya ang naging takbo ng career ni Carla base sa performances nito sa mga proyektong nagawa na nito mula sa Rosalinda hanggang sa "Funeraria" episode ng aktres sa Shake Rattle & Roll X.
Sabi ni Carla, very thankful daw siya sa mga ginawang ito ni Mario.
Nagprotesta naman si Mario sa sinabing ito ni Carla, "No. You didn't say that. Not once did you acknowledge that I wrote anything positive about you!"
Nangatwiran naman si Carla na very positive naman daw ang article na isinulat ni Mario tungkol sa kanya. Kaya nga lang ay di pa raw sila nagkakausap uli ni Mario, therefore, wala silang interview na basehan ng article na inilabas.
"You quoted me po, when in fact, you haven't interviewed me," sabi ni Carla.
Pero agad siyang binara ni Mario.
"Makinig ka sa akin. Yung nilabas kong sinasabi mo na hindi kita kinausap, galing lahat 'yon sa Regal.
"So, hindi mo alam ang slant ng Regal para sa promo ng movie?"
"Okay..." nasabi na lang ng tila nalilinawan na si Carla.
"Tapos susulat ka sa akin... Minsan lang ako may naisulat sa iyo na parang hindi mo nagustuhan, magrereklamo ka.
"And all the while, I've been writing positive things about you that you never even acknowledge it or even said thank you, kahit minsan?" tuluy-tuloy na pagkastigo ng beteranong writer kay Carla.
Dito ay panay naman ang sabi ni Carla ng "Opo, opo."
THE WRITEUP THAT CAUSED IT ALL. Ang pinagtatalunan nina Carla at Mario ay ang write up na ito na lumabas sa column ni Mario sa People's Journal, kunsaan lumabas ang quotes na ito:
"It's true, when I joined showbiz, I said I won't do torrid kissing scenes at hindi ako magbibikini," she says. "Pero heto, ngayon, ginawa ko. When the shooting started, wala naman sinabi sa 'kin si Direk Jun Lana that I'll be made to do such scenes. But in the course of the shooting, I was pushed to the limits. The biggest challenge here for me is Lovi Poe. Kasi all out siya sa sexy scenes niya so I felt obligated na pantayan yung ginagawa niya kasi kung hindi, ano na lang ang mangyayari sa 'kin sa movie? Mapag-iiwanan ako. The first time I did a love scene with Dennis Trillo, grabe ang kaba ko. But I have to thank Dennis kasi magaling siya magdala ng eksena. He can make the scene appear really sensual. Ganun din si Jake Cuenca, mahusay in doing bed scenes."
Tweet naman ni Carla sa kanyang Twitter account pagkabasa ng write up ni Mario:
"Hi Carlaholics, Careoffsters and Carlanatics! Just thought it would be important for all of you to know that this article is untrue. Not a single word Mario Bautista (the writer) supposedly 'quoted' from me is true.
"Don't worry, I have called his attention and messaged him. Hopefully he corrects this mistake or at least acknowledge it. I just think this is unfair for me because I am the subject of his article, and unfair for all of you because you are all receiving the wrong news and information.
"For him to use such words as '... biggest challenge here for me is Lovi Poe...' and '... I feel obligated na pantayan yung ginagawa niya...' are words that never even crossed my mind, all the more come out of my mouth.
"Fourth, the supposed quotation in the last line of his first paragraph says, 'Ganu'n din si Jake Cuenca, mahusay in doing bed scenes.' How can I possibly say that when Jake and I haven't even done a love scene?"
Sa pag-uusap nga nina Carla at Mario, habang tahimik namang nakikinig ang stars at producer ng pelikula na si Mother Lily Monteverde at iba pang press, sinabi ni Mario na ginamit niya lang ang press release na bigay sa kanya ng Regal, habang patuloy ang pagdidiin ng tila hindi magandang pagsita sa kanya ni Carla dahil sa inilabas niya sa kanyang kolumn.
"Ang ibig kong sabihin, pagka may mga naisusulat na magaganda sa iyo, wala kang reaksyon. Meron lang akong naisulat na binase ko lang sa press release ng Regal, sinulatan mo agad ako.
"You even went out of your way to find out my email address!" paglalabas pa ng sama ng loob ng beteranong writer.
Pero pangangatwiran pa uli ni Carla, nagpapasalamat naman daw siya sa pagsuportang ginawa ni Mario mula nung nagsimula pa siya.
Ang ikinaaayaw niya lang ay yung na-quote daw siya.
"I hope, Sir, na you will understand po na I am reacting because I was quoted in the article," ani Carla.
Pero katwiran naman ni Mario, marami na siyang naisulat tungkol kay Carla na galing din sa press releases ng GMA-7, pero wala raw itong naging reklamo si Carla.
Ang ikinasasama pa raw ng loob ni Mario ay kung bakit siya lang daw ang sinita ni Carla gayong lumabas din naman sa iba pang columnists ang press release ng Regal.
"Hindi na lang po ako makikipag-away..." nasabi na lang ni Carla.
Pagtutuwid naman ni Mario, hindi raw siya nakikipag-away, gusto lang daw niyang linawin na hindi niya nagustuhan ang pagrereklamo ni Carla.
COMPARING CARLA TO LOVI. Ikinumpara pa ni Mario si Carla sa co-star nitong si Lovi Poe na laging nagpapasalamat sa lahat ng nasusulat sa kanya.
"She has more manners than you," dagdag na pasaring pa ni Mario kay Carla.
Humingi na lang ng patawad si Carla sa na-offend na showbiz writer.
"Okay, so, sige po. I guess I will just finish this by apologizing kung kayo po ay na-offend.
"In a way, ako din po, I was just reacting because na-misquote po ako.
"So I hope you will understand me, coming from my end po kung bakit po ako nagre-react.
"But it was not my intention to make you feel bad.
"Never ko pong intention to make you feel bad, Sir.
"Sana po maayos po natin ito, kung ano po ang nangyari. Kung bakit umabot sa ganitong comment.
"So, sorry po. Sorry po if I made you feel bad.
"Sorry if you feel that I am not thankful. I am po. Very much thankful for all your support. All the good article that you have written about me..."
Pero hindi pa rito natatapos ang mainit na pagkastigo kay Carla dahil may isa pang ikinasasama ng loob si Mario.
THREAT AND DEMAND. Ito ay ang pagti-threat at ang pag-demand daw ng dalaga ng erratum at retraction mula sa kanya at kung paano niya isusulat ang kanyang column.
"You cannot make that work against me!" sabi ni Mario.
Itinanggi naman ni Carla na sinabi niya nga ang mga ito sa kanyang mensahe kay Mario, na binara uli ng writer.
"Basahin mo nga yung e-mail mo!" inis sabi pa ni Mario.
Singit naman ng publicist ng Regal at host ng presscon na si Jun Nardo, "Nakita ko nga yung email, may threat nga doon."
"Ayusin na lang po natin ito after the presscon," ang nasabi na lang ni Carla.
Pero hindi na uli nagkausap sina Carla at Mario pagkatapos ng presscon dahil nag-walkout na ang beteranong manunulat pagkatapos magsalita ng aktres.
Si Carla naman ay hindi mapigilang mapaluha habang kinakausap ng press pagkatapos ng open forum.
CARLA'S EMAIL:
Ang “confrontation scene” nina Mario Bautista, isang respected veteran columnist, at Carla Abellana ang nagging highlight ng presscon kagabi, August 22, ng My Neighbor’s Wife ng Regal Entertainment Inc.
Ginanap ang presscon sa Imperial Palace Suites at si Mario ang pangalawa sa huli na nilapitan ng presscon moderator na si Jun Nardo para magtanong.
Imbes na magtanong, sinabi ni Mario kay Carla ang nararamdaman tungkol sa email na ipinadala ng huli, na hindi nagustuhan ang isinulat ng clumnista sa People’s Journal noong August 21.
Ipinaaala ni Mario kay Carla ang suporta niya sa aktres simula noong mag-umpisa ito sa showbiz at sa mga TV series niya sa GMA 7, and yet, hindi siya nakatikim ng pasasalamat mula sa anak ni Rey Abellana.
Pero dahil sa kanyang column item na isinulat noong August 21, nakatanggap siya ng email mula kay Carla.
May sagot si Carla sa lahat ng mga sinasabi ni Mario dahil hindi niya nagustuhan na naka-qoute siya sa article na lumabas, kahit hindi siya personal na nainterbyu ng entertainment columnist.
Kahit sinabi ni Mario na galing mula sa publicity guide ng Regal Entertainment Inc. ang kanyang isinulat, paulit-ulit na sinabi ni Carla na hindi siya nainterbyu ng una.
Nagtataka si Mario dahil hindi lamang ito ang naglabas ng publicity guide para sa My Neighbor’s Wife pero bukod-tangi na siya ang pinadalhan ni Carla ng email.
Halata ang pagkalito ni Carla dahil pabago-bago ang kanyang mga pahayag pero pinilit niya na magpakita ng strong front.
Kung ibang artista ang nasa lugar ni Carla, tiyak na napaiyak na. But not Carla.
Natahimik ang lahat habang nagpapalitan ng sagot sina Carla at Mario.
Katabi ni Carla sa presidential table sina Jake Cuenca, Lovi Poe, Dennis Trillo at ang My Neighbor’s Wife director na si Jun Lana.
Nang tingnan namin sila, halata sa mga mukha ng apat ang magkahalo na gulat at confusion sa nagaganap na eksena.
Para higit na maintindihan ang isyu, naghanap kami ng kopya ng short article na isinulat ni Mario tungkol kay Carla at ito ang aming nabasa (published as is):
“WE were there when Carla Abellana was first introduced to the press three years ago and she said then she’ll not go sexy. But now, she plays a very daring role as an unfaithful wife in My Neighbor’s Wife.

Naintindihan namin ang pinanggagalingan ni Mario nang makakuha kami ng kopya ng email na natanggap niya mula kay Carla, Nagmistulang teacher si Carla dahil sa “lecture” at unsolicited advise na ibinigay niya kay Mario.
Ito ang unedited copy ng controversial email ni Carla:
“HI Mario! This is Carla Abellana. I just read your Journal August 21 article entitled ‘Geoff Won’t Watch Carla’s Daring Movie’ and was shocked.
“First off, I don’t remember being interviewed by you recently.
“Second, not a single word you supposedly ‘quoted’ from me is true. Those words never came out of my mouth.
“Third, I was never challenged by Ms. Lovi Poe in our movie because it was never a goal for me to equal her in this movie. My character’s goal is different from hers and she’s a completely different actress with a completely different role from mine.
“It was never an intention for me to equal her in this movie because whatever I do, I never will!
“For you to use such words as ‘… biggest challenge here for me is Lovi Poe…’ and ‘… I feel obligated na pantayan yung ginagawa niya…’ are words that never even crossed my mind, all the more come out of my mouth.

“How can I possibly say that when Jake and I haven’t even done a love scene?
“Lastly, I never said that Mr. Geoff Eigenmann decided not to watch the movie. I never said that because presently he is not even sure if he’s going to be in the country when the movie comes out.
“It makes me wonder where you got all your information. Obviously this article is based on second-hand information, therefore unreliable.
“This is an opportunity for you to receive straight feedback from me, as I hope that it is important since I am the subject of this article.
“Please double check on your information and ‘facts’ first before publishing anything. A basic rule that I’m sure a respected writer such as you already know and consider common sense.
“Thank you very much and I can only hope that you publish an erratum article following this.
“If not, I can always clarify this to other press members during our succeeding press cons for ‘My Neighbor’s Wife.’”

Walang closure ang confrontation scene nina Carla at Mario, kahit napilitan na magpasalamat at mag-apologize ang aktres sa presscon ng My Neighbor’s Wife.
Nang matapos ang question and answer portion, umalis na si Mario habang nilapitan na si Carla ng mga TV reporter.
May bonus ang confrontation scene dahil nagsalita rin si Mrs. Lily Monteverde, ang producer ng Regal Entertainment Inc.
Sinabi ni Mother Lily na mahal niya si Carla dahil mabait ito pero kung may problema man, ito ay si Arnold Vegafria, ang manager ng aktres.
Ayon kay Mother Lily, mahirap kausap si Arnold at hindi ito cooperative sa kanila. May exclusive contract si Carla sa Regal Entertainment Inc. pero may ginawa raw na breach of contract ang kanyang manager.
