New Jersey Republican lawmaker resigns after his wife sends racist e-mail to Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis.

Pat Delany stepped down from the state Assembly this month and said he wouldn’t seek a full term in November because of his wife’s missive to Lewis’ campaign, Burlington County Republican Chairman Bill Layton said. Delany originally cited an unspecified family issue as the reason for his abrupt resignation. 

Delany and his wife, Jennifer Delany, are white. Lewis, a political novice who’s among the greatest athletes of all time, is black. 

Jennifer Delany’s email to Lewis’ campaign said, in part, “Imagine having dark skin and name recognition and the nerve to think that equaled knowing something about politics.” 

Layton said Pat Delany decided to leave office to shield his three children from “a hurtful and embarrassing public spectacle involving their mother.” 

“Former Assemblyman Pat Delany’s wife inexplicably sent an offensive and racist email in response to a routine email from Carl Lewis’ campaign; her actions were inexcusable,” Layton said. 

Delany said in a statement that he and his wife don’t share the same racial views. 

He said he was sorry.“On behalf of my family, we sincerely apologize to Mr. Lewis for any pain this caused him,” he said. 

Neither the Delanys nor Lewis could be reached by telephone for comment Monday.

You might think I would be used to it by now, but I STILL find myself shocked by the amount of racism that has bubbled to the surface since the election of Barack Obama. It is like the country was nothing more than a pus filled boil that the election pierced, thereby releasing the rancid infection lying just beneath the surface and allowing it to spill forth onto our airwaves and political landscape.

I want to feel badly for this guy, especially if it is true that "he and his wife don't share the same racial views," however that might NOT be accurate according to this article:

A bill from state Senator Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblymen Scott Rudder and Pat Delany, all R-Burlington, would take away shares of the state’s $850 million budget for higher education from any school determined to have admitted illegal immigrants to the student body. 

Yeah that sounds like typical Teabagger code for "keep the darkies out of our schools."

I am wondering if both Rep. Delany AND his wife share these same racist views, but only she was careless enough to let the cat out of the bag publicly?

The arrest of Shawn Christy. Was the FBI justified?

As many of you know Shawn and his father, Craig Christy, were arrested on August 18th.

But Shawn and Craig, 47, are accused of being interested in technology as well. On Aug. 18, the day after a federal grand jury in Alaska indicted the pair, agents at the FBI office in Allentown, Pa., arrested the father and son and charged them with making hundreds of harassing, expletive-filled, and threatening phone calls to former Alaska governor Sarah Palin's attorney John Tiemessen and employees of his law firm in early August.The calls were placed after Tiemessen and Palin, the 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee and potential 2012 presidential candidate, obtained restraining orders against the two men in the last year because of what they said was harassment, including text messages and phone calls to Palin family members and friends. 

Shawn Christy reportedly admitted in court to having threatened to rape Palin, and sending her numerous emails and gifts. Following their arrest, Craig and Shawn appeared in U.S. district court in Allentown. "There's a level of obsession here that elevates the conduct from merely creepy to truly threatening," Assistant U.S. Attorney John Gallagher reportedly said in arguing for the men to be held until they're transported to Anchorage for further court hearings. They face up to two years in jail, U.S. Attorney Retta-Rae Randall tells The Daily Beast.

I had written about Christy two times in April. Once essentially calling Sarah out for publicly playing the victim over these phone calls rather than handling it quietly (Like President Obama would) and then again later in the month after Christy lost his job, possibly over this same publicity.

I spoke to Shawn on the phone and though I did detect some difficulty separating reality from fantasy, I did not believe that Shawn posed a viable threat to the Palin family at that time. (An assessment also shared by the FBI, Secret Service, and Alaska law enforcement.) I did however tell Shawn that he should NEVER come to Alaska again, and that he needed to stop making any calls, or sending any e-mails, to the Palin family or friends. He agreed that was a good idea.

However clearly he did not take that "good idea" to heart.

In an affidavit dated Aug. 12, FBI Special Agent Jacqueline DeCou details the quite disturbing calls that the father-and-son duo allegedly made to the offices of Tiemessen and his family members. In an Aug. 1 call that Shawn allegedly left Tiemessen, he says: "... are you just a little fucking Semite kike that likes to get a dick up your ass and likes to fuck people over? Well, surprise, for the first time in your life, John, somebody small, some little dick fuck from McAdoo is going to ram it up your fucking ass and take everything away that you ever fucking—everything you fucking love ..." 

On Aug. 4, Craig allegedly left Tiemessen a death threat, according to the affidavit, in which he said: "I tell you, motherfucker, you're playing with the wrong fucking boy. I tell you what, you want to play fucking games like that, I'll fucking kill you. There's a fucking threat now, fucking bring it on, motherfucker. You got that? You wanna fuck with my boy like that, I will come and fucking kill you ..."

I am sorry, but there is just NO excuse for making these kind of threatening phone calls, or sending e-mails with a similar content.

I also spoke to Shawn's mom, Karen Christy, about the situation (Before I knew anything about the above exchanges.)  I chose to talk to Karen instead of her husband because I believed she was the most rational person in the family.

I talked to her about getting Shawn counseling, but she said he had passed a psychiatric evaluation with no problem, and that Shawn only had problems stemming from his exposure to Lyme disease.  She spoke about his gentleness and intelligence, and seemed to believe that the REAL problem stemmed from Sarah Palin and her family. Sadly there seemed to me to be a certain disconnect for Karen when it came to her son and husband's behaviors.

Anyway after that phone call I severed my communication with the Christy family.

Listen I know that it is very natural for those of us who have watched Sarah and her crazy antics all of these years to almost automatically take the side of anybody with whom she has a conflict.  But if what is described in the above affidavits is accurate, and I am sorry but it is hard to believe at this point that it is not, then as rational people we have to recognize that in this circumstance Sarah Palin might actually have really been the victim.

In other words, to answer the question posed in my headline, yes, it appears that the FBI was probably justified in their arrest of Shawn and Craig Christy.   I may wish that such were not the case, but all of the evidence seems to suggest that they had little choice.

MSNBC host Martin Bashir finds way to silence the Palin-bots. Sadly won't work for everyone.

Comparing his work as host of Martin Bashir to that of the network’s primetime stars, like Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell, Bashir’s quick to concede he’s still learning. “It’s a challenge to find a voice, but also to do it in a way that consistent to me,” he told Mediaite. “I’m really more of a listener than a shrieker.” 

 He may be known as a genteel listener, but that’s not to say he’s a pushover when temperatures get hot. When Bashir delivered a commentary on Sarah Palin’s on-again, off-again bus tour, suggesting the motive behind it all was money, Palin’s supporters unleashed a torrent of criticism–and a few lightly veiled threats. “It was extraordinary. I had people literally leaving messages (late at night),” he told us, describing some of calls as unsettling in their tone and content. “Extremely offensive language and saying things about me personally. They said they knew where my family lived.” 

 Bashir, in keeping with his character, pondered the passion behind the threats before deciding what to do. “I’m an outsider, but I can tell you it’s a privilege to work in this country. So much of America is special and exceptional. And the implication of people who were (calling) was that because I was criticizing a quasi-politician, I was criticizing the country…that I was in some way implying comtempt or disrespect for this nation.” 

 Bashir made the decision to respond by going on his program and showing viewers his green card. “I am, in fact, a legal, permanent resident of the United States,” he said, holding the green card in his hand. “And I’m well on my way to becoming a citizen of this great country.” 

 It was a unique moment and a revealing one. It also put an end to the phone calls. “It was something. To be perfectly honest, it silenced everybody.” And for Bashir, it was not a moment manufactured for television–but a response that came from his heart. “I’m not someone who hates this country. I’ve grown to love this nation.”

I don't think that it is too much of a stretch to say that there is little doubt that Martin Bashir loves this country MUCH more than Sarah Palin ever could.

Sarah Palin is a spoiled little girl who uses the language of the patriot to manipulate people into supporting her, and lining her pockets with cash. Bashir is a man who was born elsewhere and was drawn to this country by the freedoms that many of its people take for granted.

His awesome smackdown of the Palin-bots almost makes me wish I had a green card to wave around when they come after me.

What is it about the water in Wasilla?

Wasilla City Councilman Steve Menard has repaid the city the $350 it paid to the Westmark Sitka hotel for repairs to a room after a three-night stay by Menard, reports the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman. The council is planning a closed session Monday to discuss Menard's behavior. 

Menard was one of several city council members and staff attending the summer Alaska Municipal League meetings in Sitka last week. ... According to a bill sent to the city from the Westmark, damage to Menard's room included two mattresses and a chair urinated on, vomit on the carpet, removal of a screen from a window, a burned mattress, all bedding was ruined and there had been smoking in the room, which was prohibited. The room was out of service for three days while staff cleaned and made repairs. 

Menard, 41, whose late father was a Mat-Su Borough mayor and mother is an Alaska state senator, has been convicted at least twice in recent years for misdemeanor offenses involving drunkenness. 

Yeah I know what you are thinking, aren't there rumors that Track is the offspring of Steve Menard's brother, Curtis Menard?

Yes there are.  In fact most of the bloggers and authors who write about Palin have decided that the rumor is most likely not a rumor at all, but rather a cold hard fact.

The clincher for me was reading that Palin had threatened to drop out of the Governor's race due to allegations that Track was not Todd's child.

I learned long ago that the more aggressively Palin denies a rumor, the more likely it is that the rumor is in fact true. (Just think back to how many times she brings up the "rumor" that Trig is not her son as an example.)

So I think the take away from this is that some of the more egregious behaviors attributed to Track might NOT have been the result of poor parenting on the Palin's part, but instead due to simple biology.  So we might have to give a pass to Sarah for that.

I'm just saying.

However the other kids difficulties?  Totally the Grizzled mama's fault!

LN: Anyway, I know that in this time since we’ve worked together, you’ve re-written your paper and pushed it out into the world a few more times. Tell us where you are with all of that. 

BS: I’ve rewritten it in magazine format. The original format was as an academic research paper, but it was in truth always more of a journalistic expose than a theoretical paper. The theory part, about the spiral of silence, was only the last five pages; the first 20 pages was an expose of Babygate. So in rewriting it, I have made its form true to its overriding original purpose: to expose the shortcomings of the press in covering Babygate, which necessitated exposing Babygate itself. 

LN: They go hand in hand don’t they? And I can say having read all the versions that you make an excellent case for both. Your writing is tight and sophisticated. And it’s also evolved as you’ve worked through the story. Explain what your goal was with that. 

BS: The rewrite is shorter, bolder, and much more forceful than the earlier paper. In the original paper, I avoided any mention of Gryphen’s “Tale of Two Trigs” theory. In the rewrite, I include that stuff. And I think the multiple Trigs idea has probably spooked some magazines from accepting the article. That does not surprise me. In April, I would not even mention in radio interviews the possibility of different babies being shown as Trig at different times. I did not have a strong sense then that that part of the story was almost certainly true and crucial to understanding what happened. But now I do feel that way. 

LN: And yet, the editors you’ve submitted to are still not biting. What kinds of things are they saying? 

BS: Here is part of a nice rejection note I got from a British publication: “Thank you for your interesting read. I am sorry but I am not sure that it is something we would take on as I would need to start from scratch to satisfy myself of all sources etc. and I am not 100% sure that even this would get to the bottom. What is needed is a whistleblower. Her daughter's doctor – or something.”The online editor of a different publication, one in the U.S., indicated he definitely would use my article, in fact would feature it, based on seeing my original paper. After I sent the revision, he decided he’d better check with his publisher, who said no. 

LN: How did you react when you heard back from both these editors? 

BS: Their reactions did not surprise me. If you haven’t really familiarized yourself with the facts surrounding the hoax, it does sound a bit surreal. 

LN: In your paper you are very critical of the press for being timid and easily manipulated by Palin. Now you sound sympathetic to those who will not accept your revised article for publication. Aren’t you being inconsistent? 

BS: Well, I need to draw a distinction. It was the press corps covering Palin in 2008 that deserves the most criticism. There were red flags back then that a hoax had probably happened. When the McCain campaign responded to the fake-birth rumors by throwing Bristol under the bus and claiming she was five months pregnant – and thus could not be Trig’s mother – the journalists’ bullshit sirens should have been blaring. (As it turns out, since more than one baby has almost certainly been displayed as Trig at different times, there’s no telling what relation Bristol has to the current “normal ears” Trig with Down syndrome.) As for current editors who are encountering much of this Babygate stuff for the first time, I can understand how they might find my revised paper on the very edge of believability, despite all the evidence I present. 

LN: So isn’t this a Catch-22: Many editors find the Babygate saga unbelievable because no one in the mainstream press has written about it, but no one in the mainstream press will write about it for fear that people will find it unbelievable? 

BS: Yep. That sums it up nicely.

As most of you who have been visiting here at IM know all too well, this problem with being taken seriously by the MSM  is one of the most frustrating parts of this campaign to reveal, what may in fact be, one of the most amazing political hoaxes of all time.

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the efforts of Brad and Laura to find a way to present the evidence in the most palatable way possible so that newspapers and periodicals will find it impossible to resist.

 I would also like all of you to know that they are not alone in their struggle to get the truth about this perplexing mystery out to the public.  Fred and his researchers have also been working their fingers to the bone trying to craft a book that will be difficult, if not impossible, for the MSM to ignore.

And toward that end they have started to carefully comb through Palin's recent email dump and discovered some very interesting inconsistencies. As many of you know, contrary to what Palin supporters and journalists at large seemed to think, there were things to discover in those emails.

I personally was able to find some very interesting emails myself which demonstrated Sarah's lack of compassion, proved she orchestrated fake letters to the editor, and convinced at least one holdout that she most likely faked her last pregnancy.

Fred and his researchers have dug even deeper, and hope to bring out some information that will impress even jaded "babygate" experts like us.

And if that was not enough to wake you up this morning, I also have a potential lead that may finally answer one of the biggest questions surrounding the "babygate" saga.

Palin e-mail "hacker" transferred to halfway house, will finish his sentence on November 23rd.

David Kernell left a fenceless minimum-security federal prison in Ashland, Kentucky, where inmates are put to work on landscaping and building maintenance for between 12 and 40 cents per hour for the halfway house, according to a Tennessee television station. 

Kernell was convicted last year of breaking into to Palin's Yahoo e-mail account during the 2008 presidential election. He outsmarted Yahoo's password reset system by correctly answering questions using information about Palin that was easily available on the Internet -- a technique that criminals continue to use to break into those accounts. 

Apparently it took Kernell minutes to look up her birth date, ZIP code, and where she met her husband Todd (Wasilla High School).When they don't make any money from the crime, it's unusual for first-time hackers with no criminal records to get a prison sentence, but Kernell's case wasn't exactly typical. Palin and her eldest daughter Bristol testified during the trial, and prosecutors argued that a stiff sentence would deter further hacking during presidential elections.

This is, of course, a complete travesty of justice. And just another example of how the Palins leave a path of destruction wherever they go.

The ONLY reason that this kid, who by the way did not "hack" anything, was given such a stiff sentence was because Sarah and Bristol perjured themselves when asked what kind of impact the guessing of the password to the Yahoo account had on their lives.

The simple truth would have been that Sarah was freaked out that the world had discovered what an imbecile she was to use private Yahoo accounts to conduct state business, but THAT was glossed over in the testimony.

As I said back in April of 2010, Palin was extremely lucky that the person who guessed her password information was just some harmless college kid pulling a prank and NOT some political operative or foreign spy looking to find some damaging information on Palin that they could have used to REALLY hurt her, and potentially the people of Alaska.

Personally I hope that once David Kernell finishes his sentence that he gives a couple of interviews and tells people his side of the story, and how aggressively Sarah Palin worked to destroy his life in retribution for daring to reveal her ignorance.

As promised here is the update on the long awaited book about Sarah Palin's faked pregnancy, and the culpability of the American press for not revealing the deception.

Just smile Todd. Trust me, NOBODY will ever figure out what we did.

Thank you for patiently waiting through the weekend for this update.  With no further ado, I will let Fred fill you in on the book's progress and just when we can expect to see it in our local bookstores.

The book is nearly finished, and large sections of the book were turned into our publisher's legal department in late June. We are still shooting for a release date within the next four - six weeks. 

However, there have been some hold-ups, and I'll share the status of that now. I noticed that after Gryphen kindly posted my request for title ideas back in May, many people asked if there were going to be any great new revelations in the book. Would we finally have the answer? At the time, the answer to that was - honestly - no. 

My original hope for the book was to, first, present, in one place, an iron clad summary of the material that have been collected by multiple researchers that Sarah Palin's pregnancy with Trig was not as presented to the public in March and April of 2008. One way that the mainstream media has been able to ignore the story is that the bits and pieces have been scattered on multiple blogs and websites, and presented piecemeal. Each piece, then, is argued about and ignored individually. The weight of the story, however, when presented as a coherent whole, becomes overwhelming. Crafting this "coherent whole" was and continues to be a very difficult job. For example, there are actually about fifty separate photos from the time frame of March 4th through April 18th that are relevant to the story, and tough decisions had to be made about what material to put in the book and what to leave out, since we simply cannot use it all. The main market for the book is going to be those who know almost nothing of the story. Too little evidence and the story falls flat. Too much and the main point - that the media ignored terribly glaring inconsistencies in multiple areas - gets lost. 

Secondly, the thrust of the book was to show how and why the mainstream media first during the campaign and second, since, have ignored the story

The "smoking gun" was the presentation of all the material together in such a way that the weight of the evidence made the idea that she had faked the pregnancy plausible beyond any reasonable doubt. As I am an attorney, the reasonable doubt angle is one that I explored a great deal in the chapters on the pregnancy evidence.This was, as I said, the original plan for the book.

Then, on June 10th, thousands of pages of Palin's emails were released. Within 24-48 hours, the Palin apologists were shouting, "There's nothing to see here!" and encouraging everyone to move on, even though no one could possibly have read even a fraction of the mail in that time. 

One extraordinarily interesting discrepancy was pointed out by Gryphen in his blog on June 13th, when he shared the enormous disconnect of Palin sending herself a draft copy of the letter she intended to release to friends and family after the baby was born. This letter was sent six weeks before Palin's announced due date and eleven days before the child's announced "birth." Numerous other media outlets had already commented on the letter, most taking the position that it actually "proved" Sarah Palin was Trig's mother, with none noticing the eye-popping discrepancy that she referred to her pregnancy in the past tense and as "easy" when she still supposedly had six weeks to go.

This discovery led me to believe that there was "plenty to see here." I put any new writing and editing on hold as I, with the help of two very dedicated research helpers, have pored over emails. Our persistence has paid off. The bread crumbs are tiny (more like crumbs of crumbs), but the trail is there. No, of course there is no email stating, "I woke up this morning and decided to fake a pregnancy." If there were, it would have been found weeks ago and the story would be over. 

But, as any good Catholic school-boy knows, there are sins of commission, and sins of omission. 

Those who spent months (paid for by the state of Alaska) redacting Sarah Palin's emails likely pulled out a lot of "commissions," but they missed the omissions, because they could not possibly know what to look for. We did. I can now tell you with confidence that there will be new material in the book. After almost three years, there is more to find...

I'm sorry that all of you who have been waiting for the book will have to wait a bit longer. Prior to the release of the emails, I believed that an August 15th release date for the book was realistic. Now, I am working terribly hard to make this all come together by September 1. 

Also, for all who are wondering about a title, we have made a decision, but are not yet releasing it.

You know I was worried before, but now I think we are actually seeing the mental breakdown of the Palin-bots playing out in real time.

When she breaks the bad news about not running for President to them, they are going to lose their shit!

Politicususa reports on the death threats that come from some so-called Christians when they dislike certain criticisms.

A newspaper opinion writer received a series of death threats for a commentary on church involvement in her local school district and was told to make her peace with god and write a retraction or she would be abducted outside of the newspaper where her truck was parked and taken to a field and set on fire.

A male journalist received a phone call from an irate conservative who informed him that unless he stopped criticizing the tea party, the true patriots of America would invade his home at night, tie him up and make him witness his wife and two daughters being raped and then dismembered before his eyes.

In California, a reporter awoke to the sound of breaking glass and shouts of, “USA, USA” and “fucking traitor” for writing a column criticizing the city for spending tax dollars on firework displays instead of assistance for homeless veterans. The same young man wrote an opinion piece criticizing local churches for campaigning against same-sex marriage, and within a week of the commentary returned home from work to find signs on his yard ordering him to “obey your god” and “pray or die.” The writer has since moved to a different neighborhood where last month a letter arrived telling him there was nowhere he could hide that “god’s soldiers won’t find you.”

The FBI says most threats journalists receive are from cowards emboldened by the anonymity the Internet provides and disposable cell phones, but at the same time, they give a warning that all journalists should heed. They said a person who takes the time to call, email, or write a letter is just one small outrage away from acting on a threat of violence.

I have certainly had my share of threats and crazed e-mails as well.

I just send them to the FBI and let them put them in the file.

Somehow I have to believe that many of us who are bloggers, journalists, or television reporters, get FAR more death threats than Sarah Palin has ever seen.  Just to keep things in perspective.

State of Alaska releases 54 more pages of Palin e-mails. Just like that!

The state of Alaska has released 54 pages of emails from Sarah Palin's first month as governor.

Linda Perez, administrative director for the governor's office, said Wednesday that the emails were inadvertently omitted from a release of messages from Palin's first 21 months in office.

News organizations and individuals requested the emails from Palin's time as governor in September 2008, after she became the Republican vice presidential nominee. More than 24,000 pages were released last month, but only a few emails were from December 2006, her first month as governor.

Perez says the state is making sure that all emails that should have been released have been. If more are found, she says they'll be released with emails from the final 10 months of Palin's term. No timetable was given.

Wait! What do they mean they "released 54 pages of emails?" 

They just released them?

Nobody had to fly to Juneau?  Nobody had to lug boxes of printed pages to a scanner  to revert  them back into digital images? Nobody had to drag up camera crews to film the circus like atmosphere because they knew nobody would believe it otherwise?

WTF? Why the hell was this not done the FIRST time?
