Pop Star Rain to enlist in October

MB:

Asian pop star Rain will enlist in the Korean military in October, according to Korean media.

Rain reportedly received his draft notice from Korea’s Military Manpower Administration, which manages the military enlistment of Korean citizens.

A Korean news site said that Rain will enter the military training camp on Oct. 11 and that he will hold a press conference on Sept. 24 to talk about his enlistment.

However, the popular singer tweeted that while there will be a press conference, it will not be about his entry into the military.

“Oh my ㅠ.. Why should I give a press conference as if my military service is something to brag about ~ The article is misleading, too ㅠ...I'll inform you as soon as the date is confirmed...And, there will be an announcement about my military service while I run a big project before entering the military, not during a press conference,” Rain’s tweet said as translated by Twitter account @cloudunite.

Rain was supposed to enlist in the military last year but requested the MMA to postpone it due to his career and schooling.

The press conference next week will be held on the finale of his “2011 Rain Tour: The Best Show” concert. The singer kicked off his concert tour last Aug. 13 and will wrap it up on Sept. 24 and 25 at the Seoul Olympic Park Stadium.

Rain has also completed the filming of his movie “Flight: Close to the Sun” with actress Shin Se Kyung.

The singer will receive four weeks of basic military training at the Nonsan Army Training Center after which he will start his military service for close to two years.

Singer Rain accused of plagiarism

MB:

What was supposed to be Rain’s gift to his fans has turned into a big issue of plagiarism.

The Asian pop star released on Aug. 16 the digital single “Busan Woman” which he co-wrote and produced. Rain performed “Busan Woman” for the first time during his “2011 Rain Tour: The Best Show” concert in Busan, South Korea last Aug. 13.

But local media reported that Rain plagiarized the song from Grammy winner and music producer Raphael Saadiq’s “Detroit Girl," a single that is included in his 2004 album “Ray Ray." Netizens say that except for the city names, the two songs are very similar including the title, rhythm and arrangement.

On the other hand, fans are dismissing the allegation, saying that Rain would not do such a thing especially that the singer is scheduled to enlist in the military by end of the year. They said Rain would not risk his career by plagiarizing a song.

J. Tune Camp and Rain denied the allegation that the song was plagiarized from Saadiq’s “Detroit Girl."

Saadiq is a singer-songwriter and producer. He produced songs for Mary J. Blige and TLC. In 2003, his “Love of My Life (Ode to Hip-Hop)” won a Grammy as Best R&B Song.

On the other hand, Rain continues his concert tour in Korea. On Aug. 27, he will be in Daegu. He will also tour in Jeju Island, Gwangju and Daejeon.

The concert finale will be on Sept. 24 and 25 at the Seoul Olympic Park Stadium.
