'FAST & FURIOUS 6' and 'PACIFIC RIM' Release Dates Announced
Following the huge success of "Fast Five" (almost $600M worldwide), Universal immediately green-lit the fifth sequel in the franchise. And now, they have announced the official release date : May 24, 2013, less than two years from now. From the little information that is available at the moment, it seems that director Justin Lin ("Tokyo Drift", "Fast & Furious", "Fast Five"), will return, as well as writer Chris Morgan and stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson. And since the fifth one did so well at the box-office, I'm sure Universal will allow a big juicy budget for the sequel, in order to ensure it wows audiences back for another ride.
In other news, Guillermo Del Toro's epic monster movie, "Pacific Rim", has obtained a release date as well. This is Del Toro's first job as director since "Hellboy II" in 2008. Warner Bros. has officially announced that July 12, 2013 is the perfect day to unleash the sci-fi blockbuster. In case you're wondering what it's all about, all I can tell you for now is that the story features and alien attack on Earth and humans fighting the giant extra-terrestrial creatures with equally giant robots. If while reading this you're rolling your eyes, you have good reason for it, but this Guillermo Del Toro we're talking about and, at the very least, it should be a visually intriguing B-style thrill ride. So far, the filmmakers cast Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba in key roles. Still no green light for "Mountains of Madness", Del Toro and James Cameron's adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness", which was scrubbed due to large costs and the director's intention to make it R-rated.
