Review: Eternal Hunter by Cynthia Eden

3.5 Feathers

Eternal Hunter
(Night Watch # 1)
by Cynthia Eden
Paranormal Romance

Shifter bounty hunter!! What an awesome combination! This is the first book in the Night Watch series, but it's still set in the same world as the Midnight series.

The Night Watch agency basically is a group of bounty hunters. There's hot shifter dude Jude, Dee who is a full human, and hot stuff Zane.

In this story Jude happens to pick up a skip who is then brutally killed after getting locked up again. And he is brought in to help figure out who the killer is. But it all turns out to revolve around the beautiful assistant DA Erin Jerome. He can tell she is not a full human, but he can't figure out what she is.

So Jude was actually my favorite part of the story. Yes, he's very alpha, sexy, protective, tough... did I mention sexy as hell? Yeah? And he shifts into.... can't tell you, but he's verra sexy! Oh wait, I said that already. Moving on...

Erin has lived her life hiding her supernatural tendencies, and she's had a lot to deal with in the past, but she came off a bit needy to me. She kept saying she wanted a "normal" life when she had something special right in front of her. I thought her special "power" of seeing the death of people that are close to her was pretty cool.

This book was steamy, no doubt about it, but a lot of times I felt it was a bit choppy. The writing didn't flow as easily as with other Cynthia Eden books I've read before, and this is maybe why I kept losing interest in the story.

I think Ms. Eden does an excellent job at coming out of left field with who the bad guys are! And in this one, I actually didn't suspect it until the end.

I am not so excited to read Dee's story next, but I will get to it soon. I'm sure my attitude towards her will change in her book.

Author Override: Cynthia Eden

Author Override is the place where authors take the reins and take you on a journey into their world. Some may allow you into their private writing dens. Others may take you along with them on research trips or interviews. Whatever the case may be, sit back, relax and enjoy the ride because here you’ll get an in-depth look into an author’s musings.

Look who is here for a guest post! It's Cynthia Eden! Today Cynthia will be talking about what makes a (good) bad boy in her books. Read on to see what characteristics she thinks all bad boys should have.

Bad Boys, Beasts, & Some Angels

Thanks so much for having me here at Under the Covers. Today, I thought I’d talk about one of my favorite topics: Bad Boys. Come on, surely there are some bad boys fans around?

I love reading about the heroes who slip over that fine line between good and bad. These are the guys that make you shiver. They make you tense. They make you wonder…how can being bad be so very good?

I like to write about less-than-perfect heroes in my books. Men who are flawed and men who’ve even done some very wicked deeds (my demon and werewolf heroes know all about wicked deeds), so when I decided to write a new series for Kensington Brava, I knew I would want to write about more wicked men. My problem? This series was gonna be about angels.

But who says an angel can’t be a bit wicked? And when angels are wicked, guess what happens? In my world, they become Fallen. Dark, dangerous, tortured, they aren’t “good” any more (maybe they never were), and these guys can deliver death with a simple touch.

It seems that I like to make my good boys into bad men. That’s a flaw I have. I’ll work on it. Maybe. While I work on that flaw, I thought I’d share 5 characteristics of a (good) bad boy:

1. Kicks butt, doesn’t take names. (He doesn’t care about names.)
2. Black is his favorite color, and the man can wear it so very well.
3. The guy’s body is a lethal weapon. Chuck Norris has nothing on him. Really. Nothing.
4. Sexy is his middle name.

And characteristic number 5?
5. No matter what else happens, a true bad boy hero will make dang sure that no one ever hurts his heroine. After all, underneath that badness, he’s still the hero. He may be bad to the rest of the world, but to the heroine…he can be a white knight.
What do you think about bad boys? Got some characteristics you’d like to share? One commenter will be randomly selected to win an ARC of my December release, ANGEL OF DARKNESS.

Thanks!

Review: Midnight Sins by Cynthia Eden

Midnight Sins

(Midnight # 2)
by Cynthia Eden
Paranormal Romance

I enjoyed the first book in the series, and this book ended up feeling a bit the same for me. I do feel there's a recurring theme so far of "cop" falling in love with "main suspect" in a supernatural murder investigation, so I'm glad the next book is a bit different.

This time around we meet Cara, a succubus who hates who she is and what she does, so much that she's decided to remain celibate, and she gets the energy she needs to survive from the human sexual vibes of the patrons at Niol's club, where she performs a few nights a week. She is a sweet girl, who has suffered in the past and has felt the loss of a loved one. She is also Niol's very good friend, and we learn a bit more of his background through her and her interactions with him in this book.

Detective Todd Brooks is a very alpha human, who will not tolerate to be left in the dark any longer in regards to his cases, and when it comes to Cara. He should care that she's the only suspect they have, but he can't stay away from her.

I have to admit that during the first half of the book I didn't care for the two of them together. But they did start growing on me. I think they're very cute together, he protects her, trusts her, and accepts her, and helps her accept herself.

I also enjoyed the very small side story between the medical examiner and the Captain. I wish there was more of them in this book, they were fun and interesting, and I wish they would've gotten their own book!!

Now finally onto Niol...

Review: Hotter After Midnight by Cynthia Eden

Hotter After Midnight
(Midnight # 1)
by Cynthia Eden
Paranormal Romance

This book was a recommendation from for a challenge back in November but even though I ended up reading a different book, this one seemed like a good story so I picked it up and I couldn't be happier right now that I chose to read it.

There was hot, explosive and raw chemistry between the hero & heroine. I liked Emily's character (shrink for the Others, Monster Doctor, LOL) and the fact that, while being human, she can sense/feel SBs (Supernatural Beings). Hey, supernatural creatures can be messed up too at times and need some help and counseling! Colin was a perfect representation of a shifter, of course I had figured out what type he was, and don't really know why it was a big secret!

I had suspicions about a couple of different people being the killer throughout the book, the actual killer among them a couple of times, but I ended up dismissing him. So that was a nice surprise. It's always good when you can't guess who the bad guy is.

This series is a good combination of romantic suspense and paranormal romance, with strong characters, great chemistry, a good storyline and a very interesting supernatural world.

I can't wait to read more about this series since we also met some pretty interesting characters (McNeal) that I wouldn't mind reading more about.
