YOUNG STAR: How do you feel when the camera starts rolling?

ALDEN RICHARDS: After the director shouts “Action!” and the camera starts to roll, I have this immediate feeling of tension and pressure. I always think about not committing any errors and to just accomplish whatever the director instructed me, or else “Cut!”

BEA BINENE: I’m happy, thankful, and kind of nervous. I feel blessed and grateful to God because he gave me the opportunity to be here.

What weird habit or mannerism do you have?

ALDEN: I tend to repeat things that I’ve already done knowing the results will be the same. For example, checking my car’s water supply for its radiator and refilling it with water even though only a small portion of it is drained.

BEA: I pop my fingers.

Who do you follow on Twitter?

ALDEN: Family, friends, co-artists and the news.

BEA: My co-actors and some quotes that I read to set the mood for the day.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

ALDEN: Teleportation and telepathy. Teleportation, so that if ever I would be late for my call time I could just transport myself to the location and be there with just a blink of an eye. Telepathy, so that I could read what everybody’s thinking.

BEA: Teleportation, so that I can go to work in a snap!

What has been the biggest adjustment for you since entering showbiz?

Alden Richards: Kapuso’s next leading man

Good-looking showbiz newbie Alden Richards is touted as GMA’s next important leading man. Introduced in the top-rating afternoon soap Alakdana and is one of the mainstays of the hit teen-oriented show Tween Hearts, he continues to charm the public with his magnetic appeal. As a proof of his growing popularity, it’s not only on television where he’s in demand but in the movies as well. He’s part of the currently showing Tween Academy: Class of 2012 which is doing very well at the tills and will soon be seen in the horror-drama The Road and the grand MMFF entry Panday 2.

“I’m really thankful for all the wonderful blessings that are coming my way. Things are happening so fast for me. I just can’t believe it! That’s why I’m doubling my efforts to prove to all and sundry that I deserve all the trust GMA is giving me,” he says.

Based on the loud cheering and applause that he received from the fans during Tween Academy: Class of 2012’s recent premiere night, he’s really on his way to the top.

“Wow! It’s flattering to hear. I’m grateful that my efforts are being rewarded. But I’m aware that I still have a long way to go. I promise to do my best to meet everybody’s expectations.”

This early, he’s already becoming the subject of intrigues. Some quarters say he’s the apple of the eye of his mother network at present, projects-wise.

“I don’t want to think that I’m the favorite whatsoever. I’m just doing my work. Perhaps, it’s just my time now, right? That’s why I’m making the most of it. For sure, my peers will also have theirs in the coming days,” explains Alden.

Speaking of his fellow male tween stars, the general observation is that he’s a standout among the rest of the pack since he’s not only handsome and tall but has considerable acting talent too.

“Again, I don’t want to create an impression that I’m competing with any of them. I’ve been hearing comments that despite my non-exposure to reality star searches or not having any showbiz blood, still, I managed to make waves. I want to believe that it’s destiny. I have high respect for my contemporaries. We all share the same goal.”

Personally, who does he think will likely become his future rival among the group?

“Rival but definitely, healthy competition,” Alden stresses. “I think it’s Derrick (Monasterio). Many say we have similar qualities. He’s also good-looking and talented. He’s my closest among the male Tween stars.”

His love team with Louise delos Reyes is one of GMA’s most promising as of the moment. Ironically, they are not being linked romantically to each other.

“For me, it’s practical not to pursue her. We’re a screen tandem. In case we have a relationship, our work will be affected if we have misunderstandings. It’s enough that we are accepted by the fans. We’re better this way.”

Some quarters say his recent date with screen hottie Sam Pinto was just part of the publicity stunt for Tween Academy: Class of 2012 since it had a TV coverage.

“Of course not!” reacts Alden. “The reason why it was covered by Showbiz Central is because it’s in that show where I first admitted that I would like to have a date with Sam. As my way of gratitude, I agreed when they asked permission to cover it. Sam also said ‘Yes!’ so no problem. But it wasn’t meant to drumbeat our film.”

Asked what positive qualities he discovered on Sam during their date, the be-dimpled young star reveals: “She’s easy-to-deal-with, a good conversationalist and a real trouper! She’s not choosy when it comes to the place where you’ll dine in. Even if it’s not that expensive, it’s just fine with her.”

Alden is aware that the bigger his name becomes in the coming days, the more responsibilities it entails.

That’s why I’m always on my toes. This is a blessing and I don’t want to waste the breaks being given to me now. I owe GMA a lot. I promise to do my best so as not to disappoint them,” he ends.

Alden Richards replaces Aljur Abrenica in Panday 2; reshoots Aljur's scenes for the MMFF entry

Last July 21, it was reported in PEP Scoopbox that newbie actor Alden Richards has replaced Aljur Abrenica in the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry Panday 2, which stars Senator Bong Revilla Jr. and Marian Rivera.

Alden confirmed this to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) when we interviewed him last August 4 at the Manila Bay harbor after his dinner cruise date with FHM Magazine's Sexiest Woman of 2011 Sam Pinto. (CLICK HERE to read related story)

"Yes, it's true," said the 18-year old actor. "Pero I cannot give details kasi sa MMFF pa yun."

Alden said that Aljur had to be relieved from the movie because he has previous commitments abroad that are in conflict with his shooting schedules for Panday 2.

"Bale nag-re-shoot na lang kami ng scenes na nagawa na ni Aljur, kasi nakapag-shoot na rin siya ng ilang scenes before. Buti kinaya naman ng schedule," explained Alden on how the production staff of Panday 2 coped with the transition of actors.

THE ROAD. Aside from Panday 2, Alden is also set to star in the horror flick The Road by director Yam Laranas.

Alden describes his character by saying, "Para akong disturbed boy na maraming issues sa buhay.

"Yung mga issues na yun ang magtutulak sa kanya na gumawa ng masama at yung mga gagawin niya na masama yun ang dapat nilang abangan."

Laranas's previous project, Sigaw, starring Iza Calzado, made a breakthrough in Philippine cinema as it was picked up by Hollywood film producers and reinterpreted into The Echo starring Jesse Bradford.

Does Alden expect The Road to become a hit in Hollywood as well?

"Dream come true po yun pag nagkataon," he replied humbly.

TWEEN ACADEMY. Coming this August is GMA Films' Tween Academy Class of 2012 where Alden stars as Christian, the popular high school heartthrob.

"In my opinion po, Tween Academy is like the beacon, the start of trending the tween-themed movies back to cinemas," says Alden.

"Kumbaga, after ilang decades na walang tween-themed movies na pinapalabas ang cinemas, hopefully itong Tween Academy will be the start again to produce more teen oriented shows and movies.

"Kasi parang ang daming makaka-relate na teenagers nowadays. And yung theme ng Tween Academy is not just the typical na yung focus niya is on love issues but it's more on high school reality.

"Parang there would be understanding between the mga estudyante na they feel inferior to themselves na na-o-ostracize sila sa school because they're not popular and stuff.

"So parang itong Tween Academy will become parang pinaka-way nila kung paano i-endure yung everyday life nila in school."
