A week before the 60th Miss Universe beauty pageant, Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup continues to make waves in Sao Paulo, Brazil as she competes in the preliminary round on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, an important event in the world’s most prestigious beauty contest.
At a recent fashion show that also featured the 88 other contestants, Supsup, also a topnotch architect, sashayed the runway as admirers and fans on both sides of the ramp clicked their cameras, based on photos splashed on the pageant websites.
The pageant sites also reported that a Brazilian admirer had gone to her hotel twice and brought flowers for her, only to be told that the beauty queen was not around.
Her love life, however, remains to be the least of her concern these days. Hours before she flew to Colombia last month to cap her training, Supsup was asked about her love life. She said: "I am always loved. I am blessed that I'm surrounded by people who love me, who accept me for who I am, for what I am. If you're not there anymore, kahit wala ka na sa limelight, madapa ka man, you know that there are people who will always be there for you.''
Supsup, 25, also said she wants to keep her love life private. Asked about the qualities she admires in a man, she said: "Gusto ko ng tunay na lalaki. Ayoko ng nag-kukunyaring lalaki. At s'yempre, responsible (I admire a real man. He has to be responsible).”
On Thursday, preliminary judges will select the Top 15 contestants in the pageant. The contestants will be judged in swimsuit, evening gown and personal interview. The results will be announced during the grand coronation night on Monday (Sept. 13, Tuesday, Philippine time).
The Top 16th slot, also known as the global fan vote, will also be announced live at the Credicard Hall in Sao Paulo. The online fan vote is ongoing until Sept.12, 2011. The winner in the global online vote will enter the semis.
The reigning Miss Universe is Ximena Navarette of Mexico.
