Less than a month since his first visit to the Philippines, “Gossip Girl” heartthrob Ed Westwick is still wowing fans not only in the country but the rest of Asia as well.
Westwick, the British actor who plays Chuck Bass in the popular American series, was in the country in late May to do a photo shoot as lead endorser for local clothing brand Penshoppe. This endorsement coup, spearheaded by PR Asia Worldwide, was in line with the brand’s 25th anniversary.
But more than that, the 24-year-old actor was also interviewed by CNN Asia’s senior correspondent Anjali Rao during the highly publicized trip. In the “Talk Asia” interview aired recently, Westwick talked about the popularity of the show, his experiences working with some of Hollywood’s biggest names and how he nearly missed out on his career-making role – apparently, a problem with his US working visa nearly cost him the role even before he began working.
He was quoted in the interview as saying, “I don’t think I allowed myself to panic too much, because if I would have done, I don’t know, the whole world would have crumbled down around me. Fortunately what happened is I had a fantastic immigration lawyer, who met me in Toronto, which is apparently the place you go to get quickie visas!”
Back in June, when he was in Manila, Westwick had shared his experience sitting on a boat in Manila Bay and looking back at the city’s skyline. “You’ve got a beautiful city here… beautiful country and beautiful, fantastic people,” he said at the exclusive meet-and-greet with select media and VIP guests on June 3.
He also joked about our world-renowned boxing champ, saying, “Of course I don’t want to fight Manny Pacquiao,” alluding to reports that he had said so. When asked about Charice, Westwick noted vaguely, “Ah yes, I think I know her.” But added, “The Philippines has a lot to offer the world,” pertaining to talented Filipinos.
And living up to his onscreen reputation as a real charmer, Westwick said, in parting, “The Filipino women, they seem to have quite an attractive look, I have to say. It’s one of the reasons why I’m coming back.”
The Ed Westwick fever seemingly hasn’t abated yet; as such, his appearance on CNN Asia will be a welcome treat for his fans in the Philippines and all over Asia, something to tide them over until he makes good on his promise to come back for another visit – and perhaps stay a little longer.
