Maybe it's just that I am reading a lot of books centered around fairies lately, which is odd, because fantasy isn't typically my genre. (Unless it's Y/A fantasy...then I seem to like it. I guess that's a testament to where my intellectual level is. Ha!)
But, I digress...
Anyway, I started thinking about the Elf Quest comics/graphic novels (whatever they are) that my brothers used to read when I was a kid. My older (middle) brother, Joe, used to read them all the time, and had dozens of them. I used to sneak and read them when he wasn't home. Mostly because I loved to draw, and the pictures were amazing. Let me say it again...AH-MAZING. Also, because these were PG-13 (some should have been R, if you ask me, but whatever...) and sometimes the elves got their freak on. In fact, I would imagine that about 50% of my sexual education before the age of 14 came from the Elf Quest books. Not that they were that dirty, but they were...um...amorous. We'll leave it at that.
So I decided to do what any 30-something person does in this day and age when he/she remembers something from their early 1980's past that they'd like to remember: I googled it. :) And sure enough! There is a freakin' Elf Quest website!! I spent the better part of the damn day today reading about all of the characters (and the "quest" went on for another 20 years after Joe stopped reading the books, mind you. That's a long quest. Just sayin'.) and re-reading all of the books that I remembered from when I was a kid. (There were 20 of them. I realize how lame I am. Shut up.)
Anyway...it was SO COOL! I had so much fun revisiting these characters, and I've found that my favorites from when I was 11 are still my favorites now. I also found that the artwork is even more exquisite than I remembered (Bravo, Wendy Pini!) and that the story line was way more incredible than I remembered it to be. Anyway...I wanted to share. Here is the website: www.elfquest.com, and here are the books I am talking about...
But for now...I have my own book to work on.
