Meet Queen of Cosplay Alodia Gosiengfiao

MB:

The 23-year old cosplay goddess Alodia Gosiengfiao attributes certain aspects of her individuality to her passion for cosplay.

“There are many things that changed because of cosplay. Like right now I’m very technical. When I see something, the first thing that comes to mind [is] ‘How do I recreate that thing?’” Alodia told Bulletin Entertainment and other members of the press after Animax’s special media launch for the animated version of 2002 hit Korean drama series, “Winter Sonata,” on Sept. 15 at the Korean Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Alodia has been a popular fixture in the Asian cosplay scene since she started joining cosplay events as a hobby in 2003. Aside from being technical, she said that cosplaying also taught her to be very resourceful.

“That’s why I have so many junk at home. I tend to keep [everything], even if they’re just like twigs in our vases because maybe sometime in the future I’d use them. So yeah, cosplay has changed a lot [in my life],” said she.

Like most popular personalities, Alodia has her share of fans and haters. Asked about a particular group who call themselves “Alodia Haters Club,” Alodia calmly stressed, “You can’t please everyone.”

“The best thing you do is maybe if they have, like, constructive criticism, take it. Use it to improve yourself. But if they just plain bash you, don’t really give attention to that; you’re just wasting your time if you do,” she said.

In another part of the interview, Alodia shared an anecdote about the “Alodia Haters Club.”

“One time they went to Toy Con. All of them wore ‘Alodia Haters Club’ shirts. Parang, ‘Wow, gumastos pa kayo. Penge?’ And they did it in my favorite colors pa, black and red. Parang, ‘Huh? Why?’ Pero okay lang. It’s okay with me,” she said, laughing.

When it comes to her fans, Alodia said she’s grateful for constantly giving her their support.

“Yung natatawa ‘ko is that some of them, parang, online they change their surnames to Gosiengfiao also. Nakaka-touch, parang, ‘aww.’ Ang hirap-hirap na nga i-spell eh,” she shared.

After 10 years, Alodia still sees herself as part of the cosplay scene.
