GMA NEWS:
Out of all the smart and shiny phones released in the past months, Filipino Internet users seem to prefer the one that isn't available in the market—at least not yet.
In the list of popular phone searches sent to GMA News Online by Yahoo! Philippines, the soon-to-be-released iPhone 5 by tech giant Apple topped the list for the month of June.
Many have speculated about the features of Apple's upcoming device, but as it is with the most secretive tech company in the world, none of these have been confirmed by Apple itself.
Still, this did not stop the rumor mill from spewing out potential features the next iteration of the phenomenal iPhone could have once it is announced in September (also a rumor!).
To date, here are the possible specifications of the iPhone 5 as depicted by an infographic made by Infographic Labs:
an A5 processor, Apple's proprietary dual-core processor
availability of models in white
an 8-megapixel camera
a bigger screen, wider than the iPhone 4's 3.5-inch display
a 1-gigabyte RAM, larger than its predecessor's 512MB RAM
deeper integration into Apple's newly launched iCloud service
With the absence of official confirmation from Apple itself, enthusiastic Apple fanboys look
to third-party suppliers in gauging the probability of these rumors.
An Artistic Look At the Future Of The iPhone5 by Infographiclabs
One Taiwan-based supplier, for example, hinted in July that it has begun to prepare materials for production of the next Apple device, with production expected to go full swing come September and October.
With the expectedly crazy long lines that come with the usual Apple launches, a 29-year-old man in the United Kingdom has decided to begin camping out of Apple's London store as early as August.
Nokia's fire still burning
While Apple remains to be one of the most popular smartphone brands around, Yahoo's list reveals that when it all comes down to it, the Philippines is still a Nokia country, as four of the 10 most searched phones are from Nokia.
Next to the iPhone 5, Nokia's MeeGo-powered phone, the Nokia N9, is the most searched phone by Filipinos online.
The 3.9-inch touchscreen device powered by the marriage of Nokia's Maemo and Intel's Moblin platforms is one of the Finland phone maker's initiatives in reclaiming market dominance, apart from its strategic move to use Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 in its future smartphone releases.
It is worth noting, however, that Nokia's N9 remains unreleased in the local market, as it still appears as a "Coming Soon" device in Nokia's official website.
Apart from the N9, other Nokia mobile phones on the list include the cheap QWERTY model, the Nokia C3; its 2010 flagship phone, the Nokia N8; and the successor to the C3, the Nokia X2-01.
Aside from Nokia, the brand that got the rest of the places on the list are Samsung products, including the Samsung Corby and Corby II, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S and S2. — TJD, GMA News
