Chapter One
MASON CITY
To GET there you follow highway 58, going northeast out of the city, and it is a good highway and new. Or was new, that day we went up it. You look up the highway and it is straight for miles, coming at you, with the black line down the center coming at and at you, black and slick and tarry shining against the white of the slab, and the heat dazzles up from the white slab so that only the black line is clear, coming at you with the whine of the tires...........
Robert Penn Warren - All The King's Men
Oh, and about those medical records: Whaddya think I'm crazy or something? Why would I want to post them here? Youse allready got my Student Loan Statement, my Law School Transcript, and my College Transcript. How much more do youse all want from me?
Gimme, Gimme, My name is Jimmy!
Anyway, have a good week. The above excerpt, including that gimme, gimme line, is from the Novel indicated, and I am listening to the unabridged audio book, for the third time now, (Instead of the usual Conservative talk radio like Rush and Hannity) as I work. It is a Robert Penn Warren summer for me. Some of the passages in the book make one want to cry, they are so beautiful and insightful. I highly recommend the novel, and particularly the audio book version read by actor Michael Emerson. Youse can find it on Amazon.
Anway, I'm off to that place again. You know, the Land of Fair Weather Friends and Lovers, and florid, fresh shaved and scrubbed country club Alkie faces (with unhappy wives living lives of quiet desperation) : Manhasset.
Be back Friday.
In the meantime, enjoy this song. It has a banjo too! I never knew that Elvis had a blond cousin, but I guess he did as you can see in this clip.
BTW, Elvis was a Conservative. I think. Is that true? I don't know.
And turn this up LOUD! And Dance around your office. Best way to get fired there is.
BTW, Yoga people LOVE the Barefoot Ballad :)
* And one final note, now that I am really late getting going this morning, and still have a friggin' headache: I rarely ever mention President Obama or the First Lady on my blog, and probably never will again.
I have too much respect for them, and the Office, to ever drag them into my zany world. But somehow I think they have seen my blog, being lawyers and all.
Rush Limbaugh has been rather unkind about the First Lady, and I did not appreciate that. Nor did I appreciate or understand why Rush Limbaugh paid Elton John a million bucks to sing at his wedding.
And I thought it was kind of creepy for Elton John to take the money and not offer to do it for free.
Anyway, I'm not a big reader of the newspapers, so all, or at least most of what I know of USA politics has come from Conservative Talk Radio and a smattering of NPR, but still I do not think that that radio exposure has made me nearly so informed as some of the other blogs on my list to the right.
And BTW Ann, I hope those other Conservatives appreciate you.
And to everybody: I feel a bit protective of Ann Coulter, because there are some really terrible depictions of her online and awful things said and written about her here and there as well.
For what it is worth, just know that I kid around, but will never post her picture on my blog.
And Ann Coulter is a Lawyer, like President Obama and the First Lady, and I feel that she should be reading these blogs. All Lawyers or would be lawyers and other legal people should be.
