If ever there was the perfect movie to exploit sex and violence, then
"Heavy Metal" would be it. Based on an illustrated magazine, this animated feature has it all : gratuitous sex scenes with big breasted babes, hardcore violence the likes of which you've never seen outside of a Quentin Tarantino movie and a consistently frantic rock soundtrack. The movie is made up of a string of eight fantasy/sci-fi stories that feature all that the male adolescent could possibly desire. The stories themselves are simple and far from brilliant, but the overall atmosphere is undeniably intoxicating. For better or worse ? You decide. Most notable are the participation of Dan O'Bannon, who also wrote the scripts for
"Alien" and
"Total Recall, and the voice acting of John Candy. The Blu-Ray release is quite a dream come true for fans of this cult classic.
