Oh, how I love this season we are upon....
*Sigh* Double, contented sigh....
This writer loves fall. And for today's blog, I will explain why. Your job, as my imaginary readers, is to sit back and pretend to enjoy my rambling...
And away we go...
1.) I love Fall because I always wanted to name one of my kids Autumn. Unfortunately, this never came to be, as my last name is a nature name, and my pen name is two nature names, and is bordering on dumb, so I decided not to do that to my child. You're welcome, child of mine.
2.) I Love Fall because Fall is sweater season. Thick, chunky sweaters with v necks and high collars. With long sleeves that cover your fingers, and bunch up in big thick rings when you roll your sleeves up. With long forgiving bodies that hide flaws like a coveted friend should do.
3.) Orange. ORANGE everywhere! I love love love love love the changing leaves. When the frost arrives and then (barf!) the snow, I turn into a grump...but for now... Oh, how I love the colors. Yellows, golds, oranges, reds, browns!!! *SIGH*
4.) Soup. Fall is soup and chili season. Corn chowder, broccoli cheese soup, ministrone, tomato basil, split pea, clam chowder, potato ham.....and more and more and more! Give me some serious soup and a loaf of crusty french bread to dip it in, and I am a fat girl in fat girl heaven.
5.) The smell in the air. Now, those of you imaginary readers from hotter climates might not experience this. But in the good ol' state of Washington, we experience all four seasons, and a good Washingtonian can smell the season rolling in. I can smell snow before it falls. I can smell Fall in the air. I can smell the onset of summer. The only one I struggle with is spring, but usually everyone's allergies tips me off. A good Fall smells like chimney smoke (even when there aren't any fires), crisp leaves, cold water, apples, dirt, and occasionally root vegetables. I know, I know...I have a talented sniffer. That's probably why I can always tell when my neighbors are lighting weed in their garage. They THINK the dumb mormon doesn't get it, but I do. I always know.
6.) Two words: Pumpkin recipe's. Pumkin bread, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin cake, pumpkin soup, pumpkin spice latte's and hot chocolate, roasted pumpkins seeds, pumpkin pies.....etc etc etc. Love it. Can't get enough of any of it. OH SNAP! I forgot the best one! Pumpkin cheesecake. Yeeeeeees.
7.) This one can be a hindrance of Fall, too, but there is nothing cuter than my kids playing in leaves. Nothing. Nada. You can try to out cute us, but you will ultimately fail.
8.) The Great Pumpkin. I am in my 30's and I still watch it every year. I never get sick of it. My kids think it's lame, but that's because they are of the Disney/Pixar generation, and that crap would make pretty much any other cartoon look poopy. So out of pure loyalty, I still watch The Great Pumpkin every year. And it never gets old.
9.) Halloween. Favorite holiday, hands down. I love the candy (what fat girl doesn't) and I love the cutesy decor. If I had a big phat house with a room or an office only for my enjoyment...I would decorate it in cutesy Fall/Halloween decor all year around. I love it.
10.) Fall reminds me of good times in my family growing up. I'm not sure why, it just does. We didn't have a lot of those "good times" growing up, but the handful of them that I remember seem to be centered around the Fall. My dad burning leaves and pine needles, then playing catch with me while they burned. The Halloween party at my church growing up. New pencils for school, and playing outside at night until my hands and feet were numb. Ahhhh, I loved it.
Ok, enough rambling for one day. I love Fall. You should too. If you don't you're nuts. Oh, and if you live in a southern region and don't get to experience the four seasons, you're missing out. It really is magnificent.
