Today I made a list. These are the things I am thankful for today (from a writer's standpoint):
1.) Computers. (Can you imagine writing a book, or several, on a typewriter, or worse yet...with a pen and paper. Oy. Archaic! God bless the geeks who invented computers. Especially Macs.)
2.) An interesting and eclectic mix of people around me. (I get most of my characters from the nut bars I associate with. I love that I am surrounded by different people from different walks of life with different personal issues to base characters on.)
3.) My integrity. (I may not be the smartest person out there, nor am I the most talented, nor am I the most successful. And I may not ever be. But I am, if nothing else, honest. And that is a quality that not many can say they possess. Well, they may say it, and believe it the moment it comes out of their mouth, but that certainly doesn't make it true, now does it?)
4.) My kids. (If I didn't have the need for escapism, I would have no need for writing. Thanks, guys.)
5.) Cheese. (Writing late at night is made easier by the presence of some good smoked gouda. It isn't good for my waistline, though.)
And last, but not least...
6.) A good book. (If I didn't have the means to curl up with a book every night, I wouldn't know what to do with myself. I literally love reading. If I skip a night, I feel like I skipped brushing my teeth. It is a pivotal part of my bedtime routine. I just wish the book I am currently reading was better....oh well, you can't win them all...)
