I watched one of my favorite movies the other night. It's called A Simple Twist of Fate, and it is based on (or rather, a modern version of) one of my favorite classic books of all time, Silas Marner.
I love love love this movie. I love anything with Steve Martin in it, but when he plays a character that is slightly different from most of his other movie characters. I like it when he plays it straight for once. Love it. Plus, the story of Silas Marner is very close to my heart. I was forced to read it in 9th grade English, and very begrudgingly discovered that I loved it!
Now I try to read it every couple of years, just to refresh my memory. To remind myself of why it is one of America's great novels. *SIGH* And it is....I never get sick of it. Ever. And this movie is a wonderful, modernized (well, early 90's mind you) adaptation. I implore each of my what...7 readers? To go out and get it, read it, watch it, wheatever.
If you are an adult and have never read Silas Marner....SHAME SHAME SHAME on you. Especially if you consider yourself a "reader" or better yet, an "
author"...you are doing yourself a disservice. It is a phenomenal story.
